ICT Prosecutor Turin Afroz cries out again

ICT prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz received scolding from her fellow colleague over contempt of court filed against channel 24 and two other talk show participant, Dr Jafrullah chowdhury and journalist Mahfuz Ullah. I have seen both of those two men in various talk shows speaking from their hearts against the government controversial policies and with plausible logic. But on 18 September their attack over ICT controversy was a bit too much for the government gangsters to swallow.

It is an insincerity that when government Ministers makes comment on ICT verdict , and even predicts what the verdict would be, no contempt court is filed against them, but once people speaks their mind on injustices that are so widespread surrounding the ICT, immediate case is filed against them to shut their protesting voice.

Most recently, an Awami Minister Abdul Latif Siddique, reported to have said that any Jamat supporter who calls for Hartal should be sought after at their homes, and slaughtered for exercising their constitutional rights. Imagine this incitement to kill coming from a responsible Minister, if that is the mind set of their leaders, then what nicety can you expect from their supporters. The point noted here is, when someone had filed a case against the Minister for incitement of violence, the courts dismissed it forthright.

Today, Maulana Delwaer Hussain Sayeedi expressed his non confidence on the two Supreme Court judges, Justice Sinha and Justic Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik. These two judges are said to have been promoted to the appellate division of the Supreme Court, especially to give secure judgement on the bidding of the government. They are from the household of Awamileague adherent.

Delwar Hussain Sayedi has the right reason to fear them; Justice Manik is a man against whom the former speaker of Parliament gave damning ruling. He is a judge with many corruption and irregularities on his name. Last year Amar Desh had carried out a report about his financial dealings and foreign assets; He is said have had 3 properties in the UK valuing around a million pounds. It is inconceivable that a Judge on his modest Bangladeshi salary would find millions of pound to buy property in the UK, unless it was from other inappropriate incomes.  Amardesh had reported the properties were in his name according to land registry documents. Soon thereafter, Mahmodur Rahman became a target in his hit list, although he had other powerful enemies beside Justice Manik.

Channel 24 may be saved from any serious consequences, because the channel owner is an Awami man, and it is said one of the prosecutors of ICT is a son of the TV channel director. Now we know why she was made to cry like a baby. But other two men may not be as lucky, as they may not have son’s prosecutors to help them.

After the telling off, Barrister Turin Afroz took leave for a month for soul searching, and may be to cry more at her colleagues rebuke. But what she and other prosecutors should be concerned is for their hereafter. Injustices in this world may be done due to power, but in the next world God will never be unjust. That is why Jamat assistant secretary today has welcomed the door to martyrdom. He will never ask for mercy to an unjust ruler.
